Welcome to the Division 4 Home Page of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the United States Coast Guard, and part of the Coast Guard Forces.

Established by Congress in 1939 as the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, and later renamed the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, it serves at the direction of the Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard.
Members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary engage in all Coast Guard activity except military and direct law enforcement involvement.

Division 4 is one of the oldest Coast Guard Auxiliary divisions in the United States. Established in 1939 as Division 1, it helped Preserve, Protect and Defend the rivers and shores of Florida during World War II. Many members of the Division were sworn in as Temporary Reservists (Temps) of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. They patrolled rivers, coastal waters and beaches of the United States searching for enemy saboteurs, harbor infiltrators, enemy submarines, and rescuing survivors of torpedoed ships. The also had the unfortunate duty of recovering those who perished.

Coast Guard Auxiliary vessels operating under Coast Guard orders are considered government vessels. If Coast Guard personnel are on board an Auxiliary vessel, the Auxiliary vessel will display the U.S. Coast Guard Ensign.

Division 4 now consists of eight flotillas in the East Central Florida region, with each flotilla responsible for boating safety activity within their respective jurisdictions.  The division's responsibility is to provide administrative and training support for the flotillas.

For in-depth information on boating safety activity, particularly boating safety classes, vessel safety checks, etc. please link up to a listed on-line flotilla.  For those flotillas which do not have a Web page, an e-mail address link has been provided.

For additional information on the history of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and one of the flotillas in the division active as a temporary reserve unit during World War II, link up to Flotilla 44.
